About 267.8 million people have tested positive for the virus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 5.2 million infected people have died. More than 8.2 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide.

Slovakia’s ruling parties have agreed on a mix of relaxations and tightenings of the valid Corona measures. Stores closed since Nov. 25 will be allowed to reopen starting Friday (Dec. 10). However, those who have neither been vaccinated against nor recovered from Covid-19 will only be allowed to go to stores that sell essential products such as food. Catering establishments will remain closed to everyone for the time being. In turn, however, all schools except the first four grades must switch to online instruction starting Monday (Dec. 13).

Norway is tightening the measures from Thursday (9. 12.). A mask requirement will be reintroduced in stores and restaurants where the distance rules cannot be observed. Alcohol may only be served to seated guests, and only until midnight. In sports and cultural events for adults, the maximum allowable group size will be reduced to 20. This was announced by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Tuesday (Dec. 7). For Christmas and New Year’s Eve, it is recommended to meet with a maximum of 20 people. The measures are provisionally valid for four weeks.
